Çevre College was founded in 1998 by the Ekşioglu Educational Institutions Company. The school is located in Erenköy, a central location on the Anatolian side of Istanbul. In 2009 Çevre College opened a Kindergarten in Ataşehir. The second kindergarten in West Ataşehir has recently been opened.
Çevre College applies the principles of the national curriculum which is supported by extra curricular international and national activities. The process of teaching is initially designed by curriculum development unit in cooperation with the academic staff. Both teaching and learning performances are measured and evaluated by appropriate assessment means.
The language of instruction is Turkish in both kindergarten and primary school but ESL studies have considerable weight. In high school the medium language for some of the lessons, such as physics, chemistry, biology and mathematics is English. There is an English preparatory program in the high school prior to the ninth grade. The second foreign languages available at our schools are Spanish, German and French starting from grade four.
Çevre kindergarten instruction is supported by activities of Maria Montessori, Highscope and Carl Orff systems. The primary school instruction system is based on Multiple Intelligences Theory by Howard Gardner, portfolio and project management systems. High School curriculum completely supports basic skills such as teamwork, project development, community service, leadership and career planning that lead to lifelong learning process. The school also aids students to achieve multicultural and global awareness by international projects and exchange programmes such as COMENIUS, AFS, and AIESEC, Meet My Friend. Both projects are greatly emphasized in high school. They have been active for the past 4 years. In addition to all of the above, the school has initiated a partnership with Poland and this year they will be exchanging students in order to achieve cultural awareness among the students. Çevre a highly a theatre conscientious school, is joining the International Schools of Theatre Association, which again will add depth to their creative minds. The school has also taken a great step into making the students active part of the society by attending the highly prestigious MUN.
Çevre College is working enthusiastically to create an awareness of environmentalism for its students. ECO SCHOOLS, UNESCO, SEMEP, ASP net, YOUNG MASTERS PROGRAM, VOLVO ADVENTURE, GEYC are samples of the projects offered to the student’s choice. The school is also a member of different leading national and international environmentalist associations.
Çevre College campus provides various facilities for the student and staff needs with its half-Olympic size swimming pool, sports hall, fitness room, conference hall, multimedia room, arts and crafts workshops, music rooms, drama rooms, library, dining hall and cafeteria, science and mathematics labs, computer rooms etc. These facilities enable students to practise their academic, sportive, artistic, musical abilities in various club and extracurricular activities.
The school began to work on the total quality management systems in 2003. The quality understanding of the school is based on excellence model of European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM) and standards of 'International Organization for Standardization (ISO)'. The school is a member of KalDer-Turkish Society for Quality. The school also owns ISO 9001:2000 certificate for Quality Systems Management.
